What this is
A mandatory process to obtain and maintain an active Entity Registration in SAM.gov, which provides a Unique Entity Identifier (UEI) and CAGE Code needed for all federal contract actions.
When you need it
Required for any contractor seeking award under every acquisition type (sealed bid, negotiated, simplified acquisition, commercial item). It must be completed before the solicitation’s offer submission deadline and kept current throughout the performance period.
How to fill it in
- Create a Login.gov account if you do not already have one. Use your business email; this credential will be used for all SAM.gov access. (see SAM.gov “Set up a SAM.gov Account”)
- Log into SAM.gov and navigate to the Entity Registration workspace. Choose Register New Entity.
- Provide legal business name, DUNS (if you have one), and address exactly as they appear on your incorporation documents. The system will automatically generate a UEI.
- Enter CAGE Code information; if you do not yet have a CAGE Code, request one through the CAGE Registration link in SAM – it is assigned after the UEI is created.
- Complete all required representations and certifications (e.g., FAR 52.204‑8) that are pulled from the Representations & Certifications section of the solicitation.
- Submit the registration and record the generated UEI and CAGE Code for use in every future proposal.
- Renew annually before the expiration date shown on your SAM profile; set a calendar reminder to avoid lapse (FAR 52.212‑1 (f) requires active registration at offer time).
